Thank you for seeing us in toto, earnest and absurd and everything in between. "I enjoy being a girl" when there is a man like you.

p.s. -- I remember a post from a while back when you reflected upon a young woman at a bus stop, and the fact that she was a world unto herself. It meant a lot to me then, and it still does :)Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08839236994990699117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31246093.post-39817288749085005342011-05-07T21:11:56.941-07:002011-05-07T21:11:56.941-07:00How infinitely sad.

I can't imagine seeing a woman was a life-support system for reproductive organs.

Admittedly, that makes getting laid a LOT more complicated.

But on the whole, I'll take it over the alternative.FDChiefhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10607785969510234092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31246093.post-80409029233515421242011-05-07T11:21:06.786-07:002011-05-07T11:21:06.786-07:00"we are enjoined to do what is easiest and mo..."we are enjoined to do what is easiest and most direct" --

Alas, "easy" and "more for me" are today's catchphrases. Quantity trumps quality. If we keep shoveling it in, surely the void will be erased.

I was recently brought to a You Tube of the 80's singer Sade's song "Sweetest Taboo". The group had a lovely, cool vibe and the lyrics were sexy sans vulgarity. I noticed a comment beneath to the effect, Beyonce & crew seem so ghetto compared to this woman who is so sexy without needing to reveal skin. And that is the long and short of it.

Heart, intelligence, sincerity and a smile can be sexy; bumping and grinding is just that. I now know why one male military associate holds that women are "slotted" and replaceable; for him, they are.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08839236994990699117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31246093.post-17004127857930387222011-05-07T08:17:50.454-07:002011-05-07T08:17:50.454-07:00Lisa: I think the difficulty is that whilst the mo...Lisa: I think the difficulty is that whilst the most erogenous zone is in the mind, it's also the most subtle and complex, both to arouse and to sate. It's SO much simpler to just grind your crotch against the object of your desire, and requires SO much less effort.

It's easy to be slutty-sexy (for both men and women); that's just a sort of reflex, like sneezing. It's hard to be fetching without removing so much as a glove, without uttering even an oblique obscenity...and I sometimes think that the key characteristic of our consumer modern culture is EASY; we are enjoined to do what is easiest and most direct. So the PJs on the outside always seem to me to suggest the most direct route to the pudenda inside...FDChiefhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10607785969510234092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31246093.post-64594234073229366502011-05-05T18:27:54.478-07:002011-05-05T18:27:54.478-07:00You are no "old frump", m'dear -- fa...You are no "old frump", m'dear -- far too passionate ...

Having taught, I know of what you speak, and I could never be an organization woman. I could not bear the phony attempts at consensus and sycophancy.

The PJ's outside has truly got me. I can't figure out if it's an arrogance, a filip to their fellows, or more of a surrender gesture; perhaps, it's just not knowing the difference. Then again, they could be emulating their betters from what I see on the covers of People -- stars in Malibu caught in slaggy pants and hoodies on their way out of Starbucks.

If pop cultures finds these skanky things sexy, then it is truly lost. I must agree with Camille Paglia that "Lady" Gaga represents the end of sensuality. There is nothing there, IMHO.

Sexy (to us), is a quick-witted Kate Hepburn or Carole Lombard in comfortable silk pj's in the appropriate setting, bantering with her match, because sexy is created, and is more than the appearance on the catwalk. Pity so many do not know how to talk today.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08839236994990699117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31246093.post-62463263344590736802011-05-04T18:30:49.408-07:002011-05-04T18:30:49.408-07:00Thanks, Pluto, thanks, Lisa. We're looking forward to next fall when both kiddos are in school there.

Teachers, Lisa, are worse than "regular" people about this sort of loosey-touchy-feely organization. One thing that used to drive me crazy was the need for "consensus". There'd be something that needed doing, there would be a simple way to do it, but we'd spend half an hour gently tugging the one or two people who didn't agree to go along with it. Used to drive me completely batshit.

I wonder about the clothes, I really do? Is it just laziness? One thing I've noticed is, as you mention, the PJs in public. Is this "I'm too lazy to dress to go outside?" Are these supposed to be sexy? Pyjamas CAN be very fetching on a woman, but not when she's slouching in a bus shelter with grubby feet shoved in ratty flip-flops and her hair a tangled mess.

But there's a lot about women's appearance that pop culture finds "sexy" that I don't get. Tattoos. Fuck-me pumps. Exterior-latex makeup. Lady Gaga.

I AM an old frump...FDChiefhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10607785969510234092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31246093.post-47678925630376898272011-05-03T20:52:03.006-07:002011-05-03T20:52:03.006-07:00I love this evocative piece! As usual, you notice the incidentals and bring them foreground: the haphazard uniform of the masses; the sturdiness of the old cafeteria kitchen appointments.

I never was one for carnivals (I was very shy), but my mom would volunteer and dutifully bring me home some amazing red tissue paper flowers someone had created or some memento.

The disorganization of such events amazes me, too, and I understand how a military thinker always asks, "Who's in charge?" and expects an answer; it's a reasonable question. We civilians operate in a sort of Wild West way (to be charitable), and it's often each man for himself. That's why so often things remain undone, or get done in a haphazard manner.

I am amazed by the indoor clothes brought out, now -- the jammies that grown men and women wear; the pyjama pants made to look like outside jeans, now worn (or supposed to be worn) on the inside. I really think this says something about our national psyche (not to quote GWB or anything.)

I can see the 50 keys on the janitor's ring, and walking down the lane behind the school, now ...Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08839236994990699117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31246093.post-47970671798619473482011-05-03T04:41:24.908-07:002011-05-03T04:41:24.908-07:00Nicely done, Chief, as usual.

Our local elementary school was overcrowded and underfunded so the local PTA ran the event with an eye towards extracting maximum profit without regard for the mental stability of the participants.

We had all the events you describe and a few more but there was about 3-4 times as many people as you show in your pictures, the noise and confusion were unreasonable, and the prices were unconscionable.

I think my best year of the few years that I attended I only spent $50, usually it was in the range of $100 and the entertainment value was in the range of $20 at best.

Glad you seem to have enjoyed yours.Plutonoreply@blogger.com
