Kind of fucked up, either way...FDChiefhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10607785969510234092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31246093.post-55776630181831031192013-03-06T20:14:20.595-07:002013-03-06T20:14:20.595-07:00The other thing about this is that Holder's at...The other thing about this is that Holder's attitude doesn't upset me nearly as much as the way the Press and the People have received it.

It'd be nice if the USAG was all about the legal protections of the citizens. But I'm an adult and been around government long enough to know that typical government officials tend to become fixed on the official priorities of their agencies and their bosses. The Executive Branch has been completely subsumed by the huge shift to force protection we've been doing since 2001.

But the Press and We the People have no such constraint. We should be - the Constitution demands that we be - relentless in the defense of our own rights and liberties. We haven't been, and in response those whose fear is greater than their love for the Republic as designed are slowly reducing those liberties and eroding those rights.

We may not be forging our own fetters, but we're standing by watching others forge them and doing nothing...FDChiefhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10607785969510234092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31246093.post-81477179104948458722013-03-06T16:38:10.495-07:002013-03-06T16:38:10.495-07:00I think the thing here, Fred, is that there doesn&...I think the thing here, Fred, is that there doesn't seem to BE an argument, and THAT's what worries the fuck out of me.

I mean, to me this is an enormous chasm to leap over; what should be the unbridgeable gulf between a citizen in a time of peace to an enemy in a time of war. What Holder's message seems to say (if I am reading it right) is "Well, I dunno..."

And that in itself sends up a huge red flag for me. This shouldn't be a judgement call; there shouldn't be any question about what the Executive should do in the hypothetical Paul meant to posit.

But Holder doesn't seem to see that. And the lack of fury amongst the public seems to suggest that We the People are OK with him not seeing that.

And in what is supposed to be a "nation of laws", how the fuck can that be?FDChiefhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10607785969510234092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31246093.post-11784001296656797492013-03-06T12:36:48.504-07:002013-03-06T12:36:48.504-07:00Chief, you and I are usually on opposites sides of...Chief, you and I are usually on opposites sides of political arguments, but I am in full agreement with you on this one.
