It's quiet. Too quiet.

Hello?

Judging by the lack of comments recently, Lisa, I think you and I are the only people around here.In the service they told me that this is when the French and Indians always attack.

  2. Or before everything goes completely black.

Just wondering if it's the time of year or just coincidence, but everyone has been very quiet recently...

  3. I don't know about you, but fall is the busiest time of the year. After summer vacations, back to school, line up kids activities, harvest, Halloween, Thanksgiving, getting ready for winter, getting ready for Christmas.

Once winter hits, I will have time to breathe.

  4. :)

Yes, everyone's harvesting the crops and filling their larders and root cellars ...

[I may not come right on time, but I always do come.]

  5. Ael: Summer is usually my busy season, with construction going full on. This year, obviously, not so much.

Lisa: Howdy, neighbor; can I help you with cannin' them beans? Not much harvesting going on here now that our rains have arrived...

And you note carefully that I did not make the ribald joke. But unseen on the other side of the screen I did grin a pretty huge grin.

  7. OK, so you know what I've been up to from that post at MP.

French and Indians always remind me of Mann's Last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day and one of, if not THE best, scores in all of moviedom.

Speaking of AWOL, where the heck has our Publius been?

  8. basil; Publius left a comment at MilPub the other day, but I get the feeling that he, like me, is just feeling tapped out. It just seems like I've said everything I can say and it makes no damn difference at all. You get burned out and start to think that the best idea is to tend your fig tree and try and do the best you can locally.

  9. FDC,

Commenting too late does result in the occasional faux pas [I am smiling, too :)]

Thanks for the neighborly offer, but I 'spect I'd be about uncanning things if you were in the vicinity :)

  10. Ja, Chief, it's looking like time to buckle our seat belts, it's gonna a a helluva ride.
I do not know that my guy Holland can prevent Brownback from being the next governor, or Kobach of 2070 fame won't be our Sec. of State.
I'm doing election worker work Tuesday for our county. That may be fun.

Yes'm, and I trow I'd be eager to sample your marionberry preserves.

I might even linger for a glass of negus on the porch in the gloaming afterwards... ;)

  13. basil: The governor's race here in Oregon is a classic. On the one hand you have a Democrat we've already had in the state house for four years whose inability to work with the legislature was legendary. On the other you have a another damn Republican jock, full of the usual juice about "eliminating waste and abuse" whose "plan" to close the 4-friggin-billion budget hole he's looking at (after his capital gains tax cut further fattens our fatcats and empties the state coffers) by raping the state workers.

It's a complete and utter fuckstory, and the losers (again) are the People of Oregon.

    Well, shit.

  14. *sigh* and marionberry may be my favorite.

Where are my salts ... :)

  15. FDC,
If this is a net check, then here i be.
I too am feeling like a match in windstorm
The point is that we can't really tell if we're pissing up a rope , or if we are really helping.
    I've got a hunch.
