Now. I get that these people didn't come up with this weapons-grade stupid all by their ownselves. Every talking head they listen to, from fucking Trump all the way down to skeevy broadcast pimps like Tucker Carlson, is filling their fat heads with this "you just don't get vaccinated" nonsense.
But I'm a right bastard and a member of the polio-and-smallpox generations. You have a pathogen? You get fucking vaccinated. Not for yourself alone, but because you live in a society, in a community, in a nation, and you owe all of them a duty not to be a completely selfish asshole.
So I am utterly done with these people. I have no pity. I have no mercy left in me. Having - as a 63-year-old at high risk of bad outcomes if infected - lived for a year under the shadow of this damn plague I am perfectly fine condemning them to death now that there is a light that lifts that shadow and these ignorant people refuse to step out into it.
They want to respond to a plague like 15th Century peasants?
Fine. They get 15th Century "treatment", then.
Put them on the death cart back to whatever shit-hovel they inhabit. Toss them inside. Nail the doors and windows shut and mark them with the red cross of Infection. Post the guards to shoot them if they try to emerge or shoot anyone who tries to free them.
And then let the disease take them.
Whoever remains alive in the month after the infection has run its course?
May be allowed to creep out into the daylight again to be reviled and cursed as the dangerous fools they are.

Me and mine are all double vaccinated.
Canada has now a higher percentage of our population double vaccinated than the USA.

Even the Pope says that even if you don't want it for yourself, getting vaccinated is a charity to others.
And yet, I know people who are convinced that vaccines are some sort of evil plot.
(the details of the plot, however, seem a bit hazy when I inquire for more specific information).
People are strange creatures.
Me and mine are double vaccinated now too, son is awaiting his second shot.
I think Canada (more accurately, the provinces, on the advice of the Feds) did the right thing in getting the first shot into as many arms as possible to cut the contagion, before focusing on the second.
And now we're ahead of the US, and it's likely we will stay that way because apparently the US has that hard nub of people who just - won't.
We've managed to keep the border closed for another month, but that will probably be it as the government is strongarmed into opening up for frivolous travel... it may not be as bad as I think, though, because that Hard Nub generally doesn't have passports or even travel very far from Pumphandle Junction.
People are obstinate creatures indeed, and I am more tired of them than ever.
"People" are - at least the vast bulk of "people" - are credulous, poorly-informed, prejudiced (in the sense of having fixed opinions based on that poor information), irritable assholes prone to do stupid things based on their fears and superstitions or for no reason at all.
Unfortunately, that's the human race, and we're stuck with them.
What I see as the current problem is that we have an entire political group - the "Right" - with a political agenda so widely loathed that they couldn't sell it if it was made of yummy candy. So they have to 1) polarize the societies they're working on, and 2) use that polarization to make anything that rubs up against their loathsome agenda "the enemy".
So you have what should be simple - pathogen, vaccination - that at least here in the US runs into the problem that Tubby, the "Right's" current crush, fucked up early on with this pathogen and because he is who he is cannot take a mulligan, admit he fucked up, and adopt a sane attitude towards the vaccines. So his nitwit droogs have to remora on to that, and here we are.
I'm generally against genocide, but, honestly...at this point, Republicans are like plague rats, and using Warfarin or trapping them or shooting them should be considered a public health measure.
I'm not aware of anyone doing particularly well with sensible response to Covid. As far as I can tell, when we talk about Canada doing better than the States with getting people fully vaccinated, we are talking about tenths of a percent. Germany and France are at about 52% fully vaccinated and Japan, much to my shock, was at 1% in May (Japan's numbers from May 13, 2021 Science Magazine). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
cool story bro. except the vaccinated STILL pass on the thing and are STILL getting hospitalized and the only thing protected is yourself, possibly, and at who knows what risk once you get the shot and particularly in the years to come - a risk which you may be passing on to everyone you encounter, too. So cut the "I'm doing the vaxx for the community" bit, the vaxxers are gambling with our future just because they can't stand to wash their hands and take a few extra precautions. In any case, most of your hate is misdirected. You aren't stopping the spread by getting this thing, and it has been proposed that the future variants are quite possibly brought to life thanks to mutations from the vaxxed.

Bottom line, dipshit; mass vaccination has worked on diseases all across the spectrum. It can work with this one. Regardless of breakthroughs, vaccinated people are less likely to get it, less likely to spread it, and less likely to suffer severe consequences from infection. The vaccines are a goddamn success.
