What you watch when your daughter is screaming at 1 a.m.

I love this little monk.

I've posted him here before, but it's been a while and I thought y'all needed another visit with him. I sure did. I needed something to laugh at, at a point where there's not much else funny going on. Of the whole gruesomely funny short I'm not sure if I enjoy the "blow out the candle!" bit more than I enjoy his idiotic happy dance at the end. Hey, it's all good.

BTW - anyone who has a suggestion for how to get adorable Chinese ex-orphan girl toddlers to lie down and go the FUCK back to sleep, please feel free to drop them in the comments box. Please.

So here is..."SuperMoine":

Quote from an old sitcom scene where the hero is offering advice to a very permissive parent trying to deal with a very unruly toddler.

"Have you considered drugs for your child's behavior?"

"I've tried everything! But nothing I've taken has helped yet. Can you get me something stronger?"

Slightly more seriously, speaking as the parent of a child who refused to sleep through the night for the first nine months of his life, I truly know your pain.

You've indicated that she's a REALLY bright child, which I also have dealt with. If you're lucky this too will pass but it doesn't have to.

I had trouble with both boys; one now has more or less normal sleeping patterns, the other has troubles falling asleep and wakes up at 5:30 just for the fun of it. This is just one of the joys and hazards of having high-potential children. That brain just keeps going and going and going...

They are ALWAYS worth it but I do remember many a difficult night. Good luck!

Hey FDChief,

As the parent of two toddlers, I feel your pain too. Your cute little girl (probably not so cute at full volume!) looks to be about two, right? At that age the only thing that worked for us was lots of cuddling. With both of ours we went through periods of really bad nightmares - during that time we made a "special bed" on the floor in our bedroom they could come in and sleep on. That way they had the comfort of Mom and Dad nearby while not actually sleeping in our bed with all that entails.

If she's not calming down at all, even when you hold her and try to calm her down, she may be having night terrors. My girl went through that for a few weeks and it sucked. Pretty much all you can do is let them scream and kick it out, but a google search might find you some alternatives to try.

Good luck - isn't parenting such great fun? :)

Pluto, andy: Actually, we pretty much know that what she wants is to come and sleep in the big bed with Mommy and Daddy. We did that with the Peeper, who thrashes around in his sleep like a roofer's apprentice moshing on twenty milligrams of pure crystal meth, and have resolved" Never Again.

So it's difficult, but we just have to hang in there long enough for her to get the picture that her bed is her bed and ours is ours.

She's a stubborn little wench.

Cute. But stubborn.
