The thing to know--as much as we don't want to face it--is that we're at this crossroads because essentially half the electorate is willing to take another scoop from this possibly democracy-fatal idiot. What I am saying is that it's not some lunatic fringe taking us close to and maybe over the edge, but 'half the country'. So if we go over the edge we WELL DAMN DESERVE IT. Can't say we were not warned, let alone had it in front of us for more than eight long, disgusting years.
The most disgusting part is that this was not precipitated by a Great Depression or huge war reparations we're struggling under (or both, in the case of Germany--then), but essentially fat, good times. Our poor people are fat, our rich people are richer; our young don't remember pollution or various levels of privation. 'We' don't know how good we have it--and want more--and we're not getting more 'due to "them" taking our due'.
Cluelessness, greed, and an abject failure to learn from the past.
And believe me, I'm furious about that.
Germans in the Thirties had reasons to be pretty pissed off. War, hyperinflation, militias shooting in the streets, Versailles...even then they weren't all in on fucking Nazis. What the hell are the MAGAts' "reasons"? That there's a chance that the cutie in the corner booth is a Cambodian ladyboy in a cocktail frock? WTF, man!?!?!

I just looked at the election results, after feeding the cats and changing out their litter boxes.
Orange Julius simply coasted into office, after the most shambolic campaign of any major party candidate in my lifetime.
2028? The Dems would be unlikely to improve on yesterday's performance. Losing elections has become an addiction to Democratic Party elites. Assuming 2028 even happens, it'll be a performative farce, with election processes that only Stalin could love. By that time, we won't really even be a nominal republic, let alone an actual one.
IMHO, that's IT. The Last Election.
What comes next is straight-up fascism, as Trump continues his cognitive disintegration and Vance increasingly uses what's left of him as a meat puppet, for as long as that remains practical. After that, it'll be "President" Vance, but in practice he'll be a functional dictator.
I'm 74, my entire income comes from SSRI, and 95% of my net worth is sunk into my townhome, so there's nowhere I can go.
But for those of you with viable contingency plans, now's the time.
I'm only 67, but I've got the same issues. I can't go anywhere even if another country would take me.
