Friday Jukebox: Southern Discomfort Edition

Something a little creepy from Norah Jones for a belated Halloween Friday:

...or, as the commenter at Youtube summed this one up:

1) Lure Miriam to lake.
2) Drug Miriam.
3) Bind & gag Miriam.
4) Put Miriam into boat.
5) Chain Miriam to cinder block.
6) When Miriam starts to wake up.
7) Whack the living shit out of Miriam with oar.
8) Deposit Miriam in water.
9) Go home and bake a pie.

Mmmm. I love pie.

In the vein of the Dixie Chick's "Goodbye, Earl":

Let's go out to the lake Earl
We'll pack a lunch
And stuff you in the trunk Earl

Many Southern Belles have a designing and hard nature that lurks underneath -- maybe it comes from having to wear all that silly lace and acting deferential. Repressed feeling always will out.

All that demure coquetry crusted over the seething cauldron of greed and lust?

Heavens, I might faint...

But makes for a good Gothic Day of the Dead sing-song, eh?

Alas, it's often the case. If only they could channel the mean and petty passions into something wholesome.

But yes, people do love them some grotesque tales and lover's spats gone awry and fully public. The Southern post office is often the site of such tale-telling.

Well, mean and petty does make for good stories. If we were all wholesome and tender life would certainly be less...interesting.

Perhaps it's Nature's way of ensuring we appreciate those we encounter who ARE good for us, like the darkness that makes the light more welcome...

I think you're right. Getting ill after a bad meal ensures we stay away, next time. (But then, there are the masochists ...)
