Disease

So I'm wondering why I'm feeling so headache-y, sore and generally less than sparking tpday when I get a phone call from my Beloved Wife reporting

that our little Peeper has been dragged retching down to the school nurse's office having spewed all over his classroom (there's a D-minus waiting to happen, kiddo) and is now home with some generic loathesome kid disease.

What IS it with kids and illness? I swear, I never got colds until we had kids. Never. Now? Two or three a winter, at least. It's like they're adorable little vermin swarming up the hawsers to bring their plague fleas onboard my immune system; sweet, loving and loveable vectors for germs and disease, the Anopheles mosquito of the Fire Direction Center.

I love you, Peep, but you gotta start slamming some B-vitamin or something. Or I gotta. Or we BOTH gotta. These colds...ugh. I'm so done with them.

Oh, I'm so sorry for you two. Get Well Soon - the both of you.

This post brings back lots of memories of calling in sick AGAIN as one kid or the other caught the latest virus. Glad I'm MOSTLY past those days...

I well recall trying to persuade some very skeptical people during the run-up to the Iraq invasion (who didn't have kids, by the way) that nothing Saddam had in his biological warfare unit was likely to be as lethal as our public school system.

Hang in there, Chief, and don't get too upset when Missy starts heaving up HER guts and then Peep catches a slightly mutated virus from either her or you. You'll eventually outlive the viruses and the kids get older.

Chief,
I've got two things to say:
1: Kids will bring home everything from school including flus, colds, and various things you thought were eradicated along with polio.

Need I mention Noro virus...thank you to my son for that one which ruined last years thanksgiving for everyone.

2: Short of quarantining everyone in your house, all I can say is brace yourself for the next twelve years because it only gets worse.

Grace for the tea and sympathy; in fact, both the Peep and I are feeling better today. Mojo and I agreed to a childcare-share, she this morning, I've got the afternoon.

But, of course, having carefully made all these plans, I get to work...and the server is toast.

Good times.

I had the thought as I was stroking little fevered brows last night that we could forego all the expense of biowarfare labs and just parachute 10,000 preschoolers into enemy-held lands and wait for the inevitable epidemic then walk in.

Kids: Nature's little weapons of mass destruction...

Chief, I think your last suggestion would be against the Geneva conventions. I mean nukes and sarin are one thing but what you suggest is inhumane!

It's well known that schools are wonderful breeding grounds for illnesses.

Sorry you're not feeling up to par, Chief.

That was the thing I least liked about teaching -- the continual colds. Not only are the students bringing back bacteria and viruses from around the world to the classroom, but you carry their papers back and forth and pore over them. Not like the fine mathematics dept. faculty which throws the papers at scantron machines.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
